Central Peak

This orbital image of the Moon’s Tycho Crater (diameter = ~85 km) shows the floor’s central peak and smooth impact melt sheet around it.

Exposed core of uplifted rocks in center of a complex impact crater. Central peak material typically shows evidence of intense fracturing, faulting, and shock metamorphism.
